Mrs. Estelle Campbell Williams, age 89, formerly of the Acre Station community, Highway 32, Plymouth, NC died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Britthaven of Washington.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 29, 2008 in Oakdale Cemetery and will be officiated by Kent Gurganus.
Estelle was born on March 18, 1919, daughter of the late Raymond Mills Campbell and Della Leggett Campbell. She was a graduate of Bath High School. On April 5, 1937, she married Horace Edward Williams, who preceded her in death on May 9, 1962. She was a member of Wilkinson Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for many years. Along with her family, Estelle spent many years tending her farm. A large part of her life was dedicated to caring for the sick and elderly. She also worked at Bowen’s Store at Acre Station for thirty-seven years until it closed.
She was a hard working and loving mother who enjoyed a simple life. One of Estelle’s greatest joys was her home, where she spent much of her time taking care of her flowers. She spent a large part of her life ensuring that her family would have a place to call home.
She is survived by three sons: Russell E. Williams and his wife Shirley of Round Rock, TX, Von C. Williams and his wife Laura of Monterrey, Mexico, and Gary D. Williams and his wife Frances of Washington, NC; eleven grandchildren: Wendy Williams of Washington, NC, Michelle Williams of Poolesville, MD, Cynthia W. Nichols and her husband Alan of Knoxville, MD, Michael Williams and his wife Lynette of San Diego, CA, Jonathan Williams and his wife Angelica of Round Rock, TX, Gina W. Thornton of Havelock, NC, John Williams of Pahoa, Hawaii, Jennifer W. Brown of Winchester, VA, Jason Williams of Boston, Mass., Lisa W. Baker and her husband Brent of Washington, NC, and Mary W. Callahan and her husband Neil of Aurora, NC; and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Estelle was preceded in death by one son, Gene Williams, on December 30, 2003. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ray Belle Stubbs and Mary Lee Meyer, and by a brother, Raymond Mills Campbell, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 PM Monday, July 28, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son Gary D. Williams at 600 West Second Street, Washington.
